Monday 18th March 2013 +2.0hrs GMT: Kusadasi, Turkey The Ancient City of Ephesus The Latrina Public Lavatory

On three sides of an open courtyard are U-shaped marble seats with holes – toilet seats – located over a deep sewage channel with running water.

Many deep conversations were no doubt held here whilst the men and women – separate toilets – went about their daily business and ablutions.  The floors were decorated in mosaics round a cooling central fountain and pool.  The seats were heated in the winter by the way!!
