Monday 18th March 2013 +2.0hrs GMT: Kusadasi, Turkey The Ancient City of Ephesus The Arkadiane (Harbour Street)

This marble street extends from the Grand Theatre to the harbour and was 11 metres wide and 528 metres long.   From early Roman times this was the street up which visiting kings, emperors and dignitaries who arrived in Ephesus by sea, processed and were greeted.

This street had covered walkways on either side and concealed below the main sewer running from the city to the harbour.

After a walk of a mile or so from the entrance this is where my tour of Ephesus ended.  Talking to other guests afterwards they also shared the sense of ‘reality’ about life in this ancient Greek and Roman city, some saying that it was better then Pompeii (On my bucket list).
