Sunday 20th January 2013 0GMT: Banjul The Gambia Colourful & Bustling Streets

The streets in the cities were a bustling mass of donkey carts, mini-vans the main form of transport, packed with people their goods and often their animals with street sellers vying for custom with colourful placards proclaiming their goods or services to be the ‘best, cheapest, fastest or most reliable’ and every street corner was occupied by someone with a bowl of fruit or vegetables to sell – brought balanced on their heads - or a small brazier on which to cook local fast food.  In fact everyone working hard to scrape a living and smiling and laughing as they did so.

The only blight is the endless litter along the roadside and the acrid smell of this being burnt, there being no waste collection.
