Cape Buffalo are considered to be the most unpredictable, irascible of the game animals to be found in Africa and as such are considered to be one of the ‘big five’. Remember this is not to do with size but the difficulty of hunting the beasts on foot. Cape Buffalo have formidable horns and although they are taken by lions those horns are capable of goring a lion and tossing it 2 metres in the air. The thick horn across their foreheads is said to be impenetrable to bullets so the message is very definitely don’t mess with me!
