Saturday 2nd February 2013 +2.00 hrs GMT: Cape Town, South Africa Hop On Hop Off Bus The Twelve Apostles

The final part of the tour was back along the Atlantic coastline in strong sunshine and with a glittering sea. At certain times of the year whales can be seen breaching in the area and it is certainly very picturesque with long, curved bays of white sand and surf. Camps Bay, Clifton, Bantry Bay and Three Anchors Bay offer a range of beach opportunities and are certainly the ‘place to be seen and hang out’ – some hip, some for the jet set and some for naturists!

This part of the coast is dominated by the so-called ‘Twelve Apostles’ – mountain peaks that form a line to the east from Table Mountain and that stretches down to Cape Point. The name derives from some sailors whose ship had come to grief in the treacherous currents that rage on this part of the coast.  Like Table Mountain these peaks become shrouded in mist and the story goes that as the sailors struggled ashore these peaks could be seen through the mist and were so named the Apostles as the sailors’ saviours.  There are in fact more than 12 peaks but they looked magnificent in the afternoon sunshine.

So ended an interesting if rather hot tour!
