Well I am sure you realise that I am way behind in writing this Blog like a Kudu’s tail!! As I write it is Monday 11th February and we are docked in La Port on the French island of Le Reunion about half way across the Indian Ocean. It is 32C outside and I am waiting for an afternoon tour so thought I would take a chance to progress with the Blog. It is as much a diary for me as what I hope is an interesting read for you so keep with me as I now attempt to bridge the gap between the past and the present. Not going to be easy since the last week ahs been full of new and exciting experiences for me.
Incidentally we are now +4hrs GMT although as you will be aware I always head the postings with the correct date and time for the record although the time stamp for the blog will always be for the time the posting is sent. I hope that isn’t too confusing.
OK back to Cape Town and my tour today is to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela served 18 of the 27 years he was imprisoned – a sobering thought if ever there was one and he emerged without bitterness to lead South Africa away from Apartheid.
I had an early breakfast in the restaurant gazing out at Table Mountain – already this morning with its ‘table clothe’ – the shroud of mist that forms as the south westerly winds blowing across the cold waters flowing up from the Antarctic rise about this world heritage site at 3,500 feet.
Before I begin my account of my visit to Robben Island a brief introduction to Cape Town.
The photo is Cape Town from Robben Island with Lion’s Rock on the Left and Devil’s Peak to the right and the long line of the ‘Apostles’ – the series of lower peaks to the east of Table Mountain.
