A friendlier more knowledgeable ranger and guide you could not have asked for, Justin had eyes like a hawk and could and did spot a cheetah and her cub in long grass over 100 metres away!! The merest flap of wing and he could identify the hundreds of species of bird and he was always verified by Margaret one of our number who was a bit of a Twitcher and with her trusty binoculars checked every spotting in a bird book.
The photo shows Justin holding a weaverbird nest. The male bird builds this intricately woven nest from the very tips of branches to deter predators. The entrance is underneath as an extra precaution and once built he will attempt to attract a mate. If she thinks the nest is up to standard then they will mate but if not the demolition gang set in and the male must rebuild the nest!!
