The journey was made more interesting by a group of 3 Russian ladies – a Mother and son and two friends. They were sitting next to Ken – our Olsen escort who was the husband of the handicraft instructor on board the ship but not with us on the tour. Sorry for the detail but it is an essential part of the story!! Ken was sitting next to me in a three seater – me next to the window and the Russian Mother next to him. The Russian lady struck up an earnest and very entertaining conversation with Ken – Russians are very friendly as I learnt on my visit to Russia in 1990 – by the time we got to Aggra photos had been taken and Facebook addresses exchanged – well not quite – but of course me being me this was built up into the ‘Russian Affair’ and much fun was had on the trip embellishing this story and teasing Ken and his wife Jackie when we returned to the ship. All of which they took in good part but the last laugh came when we got back aboard since it was Jackie’s Birthday and Ken had forgot all about this! When he emerged from the shower Jackie said “Shall I pack your bags now or in the morning?” and then added “It will cost you dear when we get to Dubai!
