Saturday 2nd February 2013 +2.00 hrs GMT: Cape Town, South Africa The Victoria and Alfred Water Front Noble Square

This area contains the four larger than life statues sculpted by Claudette Schreuders, of the four great South African Nobel Peace Laureates: The late Chief Albert Luthill (awarded in 1960), Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu (1984), former President FW de Klerk (1993) and Nelson Mandela (1993). They are remarkable and poignant statues recording the long campaign to rid South Africa of apartheid summed up by this quote from a former Western Cape Premier – Ebrahim Rasool:

“Each Laureate played his own meaningful and different role in achieving peace and democracy, each one at a different time of struggle, while sometimes uniting their efforts. They came from different political backgrounds, from different races, origins and spoke different languages, but together the four left an indelible mark on the South African landscape.”
