This is a photo of the Onguma Plains Fort – a German Fort (Not clear quite why it was constructed here) which has been converted into a 5* luxury hotel. The picture is taken from the roof of the central complex. The rooms are actually separate buildings constructed in a crescent form radiating from either side of the central complex so that no verandah of any room is visible from another – which was pretty useful since in addition to an internal shower there was an external shower should you wish to provide some entertainment to the wild life drinking at the waterhole!! Each room had its own verandah overlooking the waterhole that I have shown you previously.
Clearly each room was some distance from the central complex and you had to be driven to and from the room in the 4x4 jeeps for fear that you might come across a warthog or lion – there were two young males who had taken up residence in the bushes not far from the waterhole who kept a number of people awake with their roaring at night and which provided a grandstand view of a live lion hunt and kill one lunchtime – but more of that in a later posting.
