Monday 4th February 2013 +2hrs GMT Mossel Bay South Africa Botlierskop Private Game Reserve - A Treat to End With!

The Game Reserve has a family of elephant – a bull, female and calf of about 2 years.  When we arrived back at the activity centre we were invited to feed the bull elephant.  It was a rewarding experience to take a couple of pieces of fruit in your open palm and feel how the elephant with great dexterity and finesse of touch picks it off your hand.  By tapping his trunk he would lift it above you and you could then throw several pieces of fruit into his cavernous mouth.  This of course had to be followed by a slap on his trunk that was very prickly with thick hair.

Great fun and much enjoyed by the elephants although a bit tough on the hands.

After a satisfying lunch it was back to the ship for an equally hairy return to the Mother Ship.  We moved from port to starboard twice before the lifeboat could be steadied sufficiently to disembark everyone.  One of the sailors virtually lifted everyone off the boat – not a task to be taken lightly – forgive the pun – since some of my fellow guests are rather rotund to say the least.

All safely aboard we ‘weighed anchor’ and set sail in an unkind sea for Port Elizabeth and the Ado Elephant Park.
