After the Grand Mosque the Big Bus set off on a 30 minute journey back from the eastern extremity of the city and after 2 hours I was pretty desperate for a ‘pit stop’. Luckily the next stop when it came was a shopping mall so the only three passengers disembarked with the same purpose in mind. The toilets were located up a long escalator and it being Friday the first toilet was locked to facilitate the ablutions of the locals in readiness for Friday prayers. Walking crossed legged I found some other toilets 300 metres away that were not being used for such purposes thank goodness!
The mall was again just full of fashion boutiques and jewellery stores although I did find a Borders Newsagents that was about the only place I could afford to purchase anything! As a consolation I had a coffee at Café Nero with the biggest – but not very flavoursome – almonds croissant I had ever seen. I still haven’t found a latte coffee and almond croissant to beat that offered by Pret a Manger, which seems to be about the only chain of coffee shops not yet present in the UAE.
Revived and after two further trips to the toilet – just in case – I re-boarded the bus and returned to the ship looking forward to my High Tea at the Emirates Palace Hotel.
