Tuesday 12th March 2013 +3.0hrs GMT: Safaga, Egypt Luxor & Valley of the Kings & Felucca Lunch The Nile The Source of All Life.

The trip through the desert was uneventful and rather boring.  As we turned south through the mountains things got a little more interesting but then you come to the ribbon of land that is irrigated by the Nile and everything turns green and lush.  We were soon passing open backed land cruisers loaded high with fresh, bright red tomatoes or strawberries.

The population of Egypt is 85 million with 80 million crammed into this narrow ribbon of irrigated land along the Nile.  Outside the cities and villages everything looks vibrant and lush but as soon as you pick up the many canals that feed the waters from the Nile everywhere is strewn with rubbish and filth.
