Friday 22nd February 2013 +5.5 hrs GMT: Mumbai (Bombay) The Parsi Towers of Silence

The Parsi religion worships earth, fire, water and wind and believes in preservation of all life.  The Towers of Silence are the places where they layout their dead in pits at the top of the towers.  The bodies are picked clean by the kites and the bones then ground and returned to the earth.  Originally vultures would have naturally undertaken this task but modern antibiotics found in the bodies of the dead have wiped out these birds and kites have replaced them.

Today the Towers of Silence are surrounded by a forest that only the Paris are allowed to enter.
