Monday 11th March 2013 +4.0hrs GMT: Aqaba, Jordan Petra - The Royal Tombs

In the lower part of the town are to be found high up on the right hand side five royal tombs carved into Mount Khubta. The largest royal tomb is the Tomb of the Palace, so called because of the high quality of its construction.  It is 46 metres high and 49 metres wide and has 3 levels.

There is much more to see in Petra including a Roman colonnaded street, other royal temples and a Monastery used by Christians in Byzantine times (476 AD) but we had reached the furthest point possible in the time available.
