Our final stop, in the setting sun, was to the Dubai Fountains, set on the 30 acres Burj Dubai Lake and below the Burj Khalifa Tower – about which more in a later posting – the Fountain – or I should say fountains come to life at 6.30pm every evening (And then every 30 minutes until 1030pm) and for about 4 minutes provide a glistening display to music shooting water jets up to 500 feet into the air – the equivalent of a 50 storey building. The fountains are 900 feet long and comprise five circles of varying size with tow central arcs and were designed by the California based WET who created the fountains at Los Vegas.
My vantage point was not the best but there was not time to get to a better one since the display had already begun when we arrived and the height of the fountains had been restricted this evening because of high winds. In the wrong place you would have received an unwelcome drenching had the display been to 500 feet!!
So ended sector 2 of this Grand Voyage, although Black Watch was to say in Dubai overnight by the time we returned to the ship over 390 passengers had disembarked but only 320 embarked for the final leg back to Southampton.
