Tuesday 5th March 2013 +4.0 hrs GMT: Salalah, Oman The Home of Frankincense

Frankincense trees are abundant I this area.  The bark is cut and the resin exuded is collected and dried.  The highest quality resin is nearly pure white.  At our next stop I bought some Frankincense that is reputed to be good for the chest, together with a little burner and some charcoal upon which the Frankincense smoulders to give that unique aroma.

The locals use it as a deodorant by placing a burner under their long robes and allowing the smoke to infuse – could be dangerous!!!
