Tuesday 26th February 2013 +4.0 hrs GMT: Bahrain City, Bahrain ­ The Ancient Harbour and Capital of the Dilmun (Bronze Age) Civilisation

Bahrain Fort is situated on the north coast of the island and is believed to have been the site of the ancient harbour and capital of Dilmun since excavations have shown a settlement here dating from 3,000 BC.  This ancient harbour and capital, the Qal’at al-Bahrain was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.

It is believed this area was settled because of the freshwater spring that erupted on to the beach (See photo).
